We Read - We Rise
Reading begins long before a child enters school and thrives when families, educators, and communities work together
The We Read - We Rise movement exits to inform, empower, and unite families, educators, and communities around literacy.
My WhyAs a child, I struggled to read. The anxiety, self-doubt, and fear stayed with me long after I learned to read. Today, I dedicate my work to ensuring every child has a champion, just as I did.

The Science of Reading is a large body of research proving that reading is not a natural instinct, but a skill that must be explicitly taught by wiring the human brain to connect sounds to letters. It shows that true reading comprehension is only achieved when a child successfully masters both word recognition (decoding words) and language comprehension (understanding what words mean).
-
By embedding simple activities like talking, singing, playing, and reading into your daily routine at home, you effortlessly wire your child’s brain for future academic success and build a lifelong love for learning.
-
Executive function skills are the brain's natural management system, acting like an air traffic control tower that helps children focus, follow directions, and handle emotions. By practicing these skills through daily routines and play, children learn how to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, and successfully navigate the world around them.
-
Screens don’t build readers, people do. Young children become readers through connection, conversation, and meaningful interaction, not through screens. Your voice, your questions, and your presence fuel a child’s growth as a reader. The most powerful technology in a child’s life isn’t digital—it’s human. It’s you.
